THAT'S IT. THAT'S THE LAST STRAW *rolling up my sleeves*
it was totally vacuous.
despite the promise of "new light" in the opening talk there was nothing.. a few of the more clumsy phrases in the nwt have been improved, and it has a nice new grey cover - so what?.
i am thinking about the jws who have spent a lifetime waiting on paradise.

the whole time i lived in colorado, i had the dubs come by once and leave a tract.
but since moving to california, they are at my door so often i asked them to put me on the "do not call" list.
this did not stop them, in fact i have asked four times, plus once i called the kingdom hall and left a message, they still come, the last time this past saturday.
I totally get what you're saying....but sending them a letter like this only gives them ammunition.
You owe them no explanation at all. Giving them one means you're conceding they have power over you, and they do not.

let no one say witnesses don't catch people at their most vulnerable, or use love bombing.. .

Prosperity gospel is just as un-Christian as the Org, so I guess this makes sense.
allow me to extend a minute amount of symapthy to the forum members who waited with excitement the recent special jw meeting and attended.
perhaps it met your expectations?.
and, i almost, repeat, almost, feel sorry for those poor sods who deem it necessary to read the so called 'new' jw bible translation, and searching for all of the 'differences' from past releases.
You had enough of pricks trying to control your life, but you relish judging and attacking people who suffered alongside you.
Seems to me you would have made a fine elder if you would have only hung in there a little longer.
so who here wants to run an experiment?
if you still attend the meetings, are you willing to cling to the "old" new world translation?.
keep using it in front of all of the rest of the cultists.
My money is on "five yards and loss of down".
Seriously, though, I don't think it will ever raise an eyebrow.
fyi.

Facebook? No thanks.
Far too easy to infiltrate by those with very dubious motives. Last time I joined a FB group, I regretted it almost instantly.
this is my first post.
however, i have been reading this board for some time (call it stalking or trolling...lol).
so, hello to all.. i have had time to reflect on the agm since yesterday and my thoughts are that indeed the nwt needed much revision.
Greetings Newbie,
Welcome to the forum! I agree with much of the gist of your argument - it is difficult to reconcile the position that the Bible represents absolute truth with the action of deleting or making material changes in that absolute. That is not a problem unique to the WTBTS, mind you: many Christian sects, especially the more fundamental ones, would take the same stand. The Witnesses place themselves in something of a different category by right of being, first and foremost, a publishing company which also has attempted its own translation of Scripture (the chief criticism of which tends to be its willingness to alter Scripture to conform to its own doctrine). It follows that continuing revision of the NWT may reflect continuing doctrinal changes, which has been euphemistically referred to as 'new light'.
We are left with trying to reconcile that this sect asserting it alone has the Truth (an absolute term) yet tinkers with doctrine ('new light') to suit its purposes and the ostensible basis of the doctrine itself, the Bible. It does not add up: logically, it cannot add up. Yet questioning is not only not encouraged, it is not allowed - and doubt alone is reason for excommunication.
It is a sad legacy for a religion which once styled itself as Bible Students. I agree that we should not ridicule the WTBTS or the people trapped in its web - but we must, must relentlessly question and examine the motives and practices of those few who hold so many like us in chains.

Actually, I think it's very much worth it to carefully note what they've changed in the revised NWT, if only to attempt to ascertain what doctrinal changes may be coming. You must realize there must be a motive here - maybe it is just renewing the copyright (the WTBTS is, after all, first and foremost a publishing company) but manipulating the Bible to suit JW doctrine is not without precedent, as any scholarly criticism of the original NWT will readily point out.
Some of us spent a good deal of time in the Witness gulag and still have friends and family there. Would I seize upon something like this in an effort to free the minds of people I hold dear? You're damned right I would.
